Anyone who reads (or even anyone who’s simply set foot inside a bookstore) will know that genre fiction dominates the market. Romance, Horror, Thriller, Suspense, Fantasy, Erotica, and the Young Adult equivalents of all these (well, except for the Erotica) outsell other types of books by huge margins; to wit, 50 Shades of Grey is now the best-selling book of all time in Britain (yet another sign of the coming apocalypse).

But what about good ‘ole Literary Fiction? Sure, this is the stuff that still wins all the awards, and some authors are top sellers; but in terms of the overall market, Lit. Fic. comprises a small piece of the pie. Being an independently published author of Lit. Fic. makes it even harder to spread the news of your book, as you don’t have the marketing resources of a publishing house behind you. What’s a young, enterprising author to do?

I’ve written a guest post over on DuoLit discussing my strategies. Please click here to read.
